This required strict standards with regard to chronic worker exposure which had to be met and exceeded. • Green Primary Ingredients
Charlie's Soap raw materials can be separated into two categories, biodegradable ingredients and natural mineral ingredients, as tested and proven by the Japan Food Research Laboratories, our biodegradable core ingredients are just that, 97.3% biodegradable in 28 days in soil. They were also rated safe for use around lakes and streams. 100% of the remaining products fall under the natural mineral category. Our final formulas have been approved by the USDA for use around food preparing surfaces and certified non-toxic by Duke University.

NATURAL MINERAL INGREDIENTS: Sodium carbonate, sodium citrate, sodium silicate (rinse aid formed by heating a mixture of sand and sodium carbonate).

We at Charlie's Soap study each incoming raw material using infrared spectrometry to match them to known samples to reduce contaminants. Samples are kept for a minimum of 4 years.

• Zero incidental ingredients
Many other "green" detergents use incidental chemicals to augment their cleaning agents. These are things like (but are not limited to): oleic acid (plant-derived anti-foaming agent), sodium hydroxide (mineral-derived pH adjuster), boric acid (mineral-derived enzyme stabilizer), protease and amylase (plant-derived enzyme soil removers), glycerin (plant-derived enzyme stabilizer), calcium chloride (mineral enzyme stabilizer), sodium chloride (mineral viscosity modifier), citric acid (plant-derived processing aid and pH adjuster), methylisothiazolinone and benzisothiazolinone (synthetic preservatives), sodium gluconate (water softener), essential oils and botanical extracts** (citrus aurantifolia (lime), abies balsamea (balsam fir), calilistris columellaris (cypress)), magnesium sulfate, sodium sulfate and sodium chloride (performance enhancers), sodium percarbonate (non-chlorine bleach), carboxymethyl inulin and carboxymethyl cellulose (antiredeposition agents), protease and cellulase (non-animal derived enzymes), oleic acid (plant-derived anti-foaming agents)
Charlie's Soap contains and needs NONE of these chemicals or chemicals like them: no baking soda, no zeolites, no fragrances, no bleach, no anti-foaming agents, no essential oils, no anti-redeposition agents, no thickening agents, and no enzymes. It stands on its simple formula for superior cleaning and safety.
