How to Treat Common Baby Stains

Nothing is more special than a mother’s love for her child. Yet, no matter how much we love our babies, it can’t be denied that they are messy. Whether it be spitting up formula all over your new dress or spilling food on the carpet, baby stains are all-too-common. 

While dealing with baby stains is simply part of being a mom, there are certain cleaning tricks you can use to make your life easier. That being said, Charlie’s Soap wanted to walk you through some important ways to treat common baby stains. 

Baby Food 

All babies are messy eaters – there is simply nothing you can do about this fact! However, while you can’t stop your baby from spilling occasionally, you can fight baby food stains more effectively if you take the proper steps. 

A great starting point is to scrub off any dried food matter with a stiff brush. After that, soak the food stain with baking soda, letting it work for a few minutes. Once the baking soda has done its job, wash your garment with club soda. Finally, run the clothing through the washer, following the directions on the care label and using a gentle detergent. 

Poop & Pee 

It’s an unfortunate fact that babies go poop and pee basically whenever they feel like it. While diapers help catch most of these messes, sometimes things don’t go according to plan. 

The best course of action for baby poop and pee stains is to get the clothing in cold water as soon as possible. If you are near a washing machine, rinse the stain out with cold water, then run the garment according to the care label. If you are nowhere near a washing machine, soak the clothes in cold water until you can actually clean them.

Breastmilk & Formula  

Whether you feed your baby with breastmilk or formula, a stain on your favorite shirt from either substance can be a real pain. 

Luckily, breastmilk is one of the easiest baby stains to remove from fabric. That being said, if breastmilk spills onto your baby’s clothes, you can wash it like you usually would. However, if the stain persists after washing, air-drying the garment in the sun should help fade the stain. 

Baby formula is a bit tougher to wash from your clothes than breastmilk. The best way to clean formula from fabric is to follow the same steps as food stains using baking soda, club soda, and a regular wash cycle. 

Spit Up 

Spit up is another one of those unpleasant things that mothers simply have to deal with. 

To get spit-up cleaned from your clothes, it’s advisable to rinse the stain from the garment with cold water. After that, treat the spot with a pre-stain remover, then soak it in cold water for at least 15 minutes. Finally, run the piece of clothing according to the parameters on the care label.
