Cleaning Guide: How to Get Your RV in Tip-Top Camping Shape

Jun 9, 2023 | Blog, General | 0 comments

As you prep for that special summer camping trip, you may feel tempted to put off cleaning your RV. After a long season of disuse, restoring your RV back to its former glory can seem like a lot of work. Between specialized areas like the kitchen, the intimidating exterior, and the small living spaces, it can be hard to know where to begin. Not to worry. With a little Charlie’s Soap, you’ll get your RV sparkling clean in no time. Top to bottom, here’s how to clean your RV for the camping season.

Kitchen

Even in an RV, the kitchen accumulates a lot of bacteria. As you work down this to-do list for your kitchen, be sure to focus on disinfecting.

Fridge, Freezer, and Sink

To tackle these big components of the kitchen, start by removing everything from the fridge and the freezer. It’s a good idea to check through and toss anything that’s expired or unusable. Then, start working on residual grease, grime, and bacteria with a powerful cleaner like Charlie’s Soap Kitchen & Bath Household Cleaner. Our all-purpose cleaner is ultra-easy to use and ideal for all indoor surfaces. Simply spray your fridge, freezer, and sink, then allow the cleaner to sit for ten minutes. Afterwards, just wash down the surfaces with a cleaning rag, sponge, or scrub brush, and rinse away.

Cabinets

Just like with your fridge and freezer, it’s a good idea to routinely examine the contents of your cabinets. Empty your cabinets completely, then wash the inside and outside with a damp cloth. Be sure to toss expired goods, and take a minute to reorganize cans and other non-perishables.

Bathroom

Most RVs have a shower, sink, and toilet in their bathroom. Luckily, Charlie’s Kitchen & Bath spray works on all of these surfaces. Simply spray the cleaner around the bathroom, let it rest for about ten minutes, then wash away with clean water. After you’re done cleaning the surfaces, be sure to stock the bathroom with the necessities: shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, toothpaste, and other toiletries.

Bedroom

If it’s been a while since you’ve used your RV, it’s a good idea to air out those musty sheets. Take a minute to strip the bed and wash the sheets and pillowcases with an effective all-natural cleaner. Our personal favorite? Charlie’s Soap liquid and powder laundry detergents. Our detergents are expertly formulated to cut through dirt, grime, and stains, leaving you with soft sheets that keep their freshness long into your camping trip. After remaking the bed, take a minute to tidy up the bedroom. Now’s a good time to add extra pillows and blankets in case of cold nights or emergencies.

General Interior

Once you’ve checked off the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom, be sure to run through a few quick chores to keep up with the rest of the RV.

Windows

Depending on your past adventures, your RV windows could accumulate quite a bit of grime. Before you go camping, be sure to wash your windows—including that big front windshield—-inside and out. Charlie’s Soap Natural Indoor & Outdoor Surface Cleaner is the perfect product. Since it’s versatile and easy-to-use, our Indoor & Outdoor spray can be used for windows, sills, and blinds.

Air Vents and Filters

Over time, the air vents and filters in your RV can get jam-packed with dirt, dust, and mud. For air vents, simply lift the covers and run over the filters with a vacuum to remove any accumulated debris. Filters are even easier—most of them can be quickly removed and rinsed with a garden hose.

Exterior

Depending on the size of your RV, cleaning the outside can be a bit of a big project. However, there are some ways to manage it without making a big fuss. Our secret? Charlie’s Indoor & Outdoor. From RV panels to exterior panels, our surface cleaner can tackle even the muddiest adventures. For RV exteriors, dilute 1 part Indoor & Outdoor cleaner to 10 parts water. It’s also ideal for stairs, doors, ladders, and more.

Road Residue

As you travel, your RV can become caked in black gunk and oily residue. Particularly in the wheel wells and along the tires, wheels, and exterior panels, this road residue can be a pain to clean. Tar, asphalt, oils, dried mud, and other nasty residue from the road contributes to this grime, so even regular oil-fighting cleaners may struggle to strip it away.

Luckily, Charlie’s Indoor & Outdoor is up to the challenge. Using a scrub brush, cleaning cloth, or sponge, apply the surface cleaner to any road residue, anywhere on the exterior of your RV. Then, allow the cleaner to sit for ten minutes. During this time, it will start breaking down the black gunk. Scrub gently, and rinse clean. This method works for your tires, rims, wheel wells, fenders, exterior panels, undercarriage—anywhere you might find that black road residue.

Charlie’s Indoor & Outdoor is the perfect one-stop-shop for all your exterior RV needs.
