HE Washer Tips

Many high-efficiency washing machines are efficient at cleaning with less water than traditional washers. Some HE machines are inefficient with their use of lower water levels and need a little help. Charlie’s Soap is perfect for them. However, Some HE machines are inefficient with their use of lower water levels and -thus- need a little help. Leave your washer on the Heavy Soil setting for extra agitation. Consider adding soft, plastic, or knobby dryer balls to restore some agitation.

If your washer rarely uses enough water, use the Bulky cycle or add a wet towel to the wash. Add Charlie’s Soap Laundry detergent directly to the clothes when possible. Be sure that the washer doesn’t drain the drum before starting its cycle, though.

Double rinse.

Pro Tip: With all front loaders, leave the door open to prevent odor.

HOW DO I CHOOSE BETWEEN POWDER AND LIQUID DETERGENT? IS ONE BETTER FOR A HIGH EFFICIENCY FRONT LOADER?

Both Powder and Liquid detergents were formulated for HE (High Efficiency) washers.  The surfactants (cleaning agents) in both cleaning products are the same.

The main difference is that Charlie’s Soaps’ laundry detergent powder has a drying agent used to form the powder flakes and prevent clumping, while Charlie’s Soaps’ liquid laundry detergent has water added.

Both are designed to rinse totally clear and safe for sensitive skin.

WHAT ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE? IT SAYS TO ADD THE DETERGENT DIRECTLY TO THE DRUM AND NOT THE DISPENSER, WHY?

Most modern washing machines were built with liquid laundry detergents in mind when the dispensers were designed.  Water flow through some dispensers may not be adequate enough to dissolve the powder, and you could end up with undissolved clumps in the dispenser or your laundry.  By adding the Charlie’s Soap natural powder laundry detergent to the machine’s drum before adding your laundry, you’ll give the water a better chance to dissolve the detergent completely.

Of course, if you choose to use your dispenser for the powder detergent and don’t see evidence of clumping, feel free to continue doing so.

DO I USE THE LAUNDRY POWDER ALONG WITH THE OXYGEN BLEACH AND/OR BOOSTER AT THE SAME TIME?

We recommend using the laundry detergent powder, the oxygen bleach, and/or the booster simultaneously for best results. Oxygen Bleach and Booster are meant to be laundry support items and work best when used with the detergent.

I'M SEEING WHITE SPOTS OR SPLOTCHES ON MY GARMENTS AFTER WASHING, WHY?

Charlie’s Soap contains no bleach and is designed to wash totally clear, but in some instances, you might see residual soap suds if your machine didn’t have sufficient water in the wash and rinse cycle.

If you see spots or splotches, try these tips.

  • Push clothes to the wall of agitator-less top loaders.
  • Use the heavy soil setting.
  • Add detergent to the drum first.
  • Add one piece already wet.
  • Plastic dryer balls can add agitation.
  • Leave the door open afterward.
