First Time Users Should Clean Clothes Several Times with Charlie’s Soap

Nov 18, 2021 | Blog, Natural Products | 0 comments

Not only are Charlie’s Soap products made from all-natural and biodegradable ingredients, but they are also highly effective. In fact, our Laundry Detergent works so well that you can use it to remove harmful chemical residues left by other detergents.

When people switch laundry detergents to Charlie’s Soap, they are often amazed at the difference mainly because our detergent doesn’t contain artificial perfumes and fabric softeners that are found in most other detergents.

In order for Charlie’s Soap laundry detergent to work its best, you have to follow specific instructions the first time you use it. To clarify these simple steps, we put together this short blog.

Laundry Detergent Residue

Many people aren’t aware of it, but most laundry detergents are formulated to leave a residue on fabrics. These chemicals are engineered to give clothes the appearance of cleanliness. However, such detergents don’t actually get your clothes clean.

When you run a load of laundry with chemical-laden detergents, it leaves residue on your clothing as well as the inside of your washing machine. Over time, both your clothes and washer accumulate more and more residue. Not only can this residue harm your wardrobe and washing machine, but it can also be bad for your health.

Potentially dangerous additives to laundry detergent include:

  • Fabric softeners
  • Optical brighteners
  • Bleaches

Harsh detergents can irritate the eyes and skin, as well as cause allergic reactions. Even worse, certain fabric softeners contain chemicals like chloroform that can have negative health effects with consistent usage over time.

Reading the Label on Charlie’s Products

Because Charlie’s Soap products are so unique, they come with their specific instructions. This info helps you to get the best results with our products while also improving the quality and longevity of your clothing and appliances.

If you have ever used a Charlie’s Soap Laundry Detergent before, you have probably read the following on the label: “Charlie’s Soap works gently. If you are using Charlie’s Soap for the first time, it may take up the three washes per item to attain the deepest clean.” This important instruction refers to the process of washing residual detergent out of your clothes.

Because chemical residue can be so embedded in fabrics, it sometimes takes three washes with Charlie’s Laundry Detergent to finally get it out.

Getting Your Washing Machine Clean

Just as soap scum builds up inside of a shower, detergent residue builds up inside your washer. The more chemical additives used in the detergent, the worse the scummy mess can be.

Amazingly, many detergent companies actually sell cleaning products to clean their own gunk out washing machines. Not only are these companies admitting their products leave residue in washers, they are actually trying to capitalize on this fact! In the end, using harsh detergents creates a never-ending cycle of residue build-up and cleaning.

Luckily, Charlie’s Soap Laundry Detergent leaves no harsh residue in your washing machine. In fact, our detergent can actually be used to clean your washer.

To start the process of cleaning your machine, measure one scoop of Charlie’s Soap Laundry Detergent and add it to the washer. Next, add a few clean (residue-free) rags to the load. Finally, run the machine on a large load cycle with hot water.

Cleaning Residues from Your Clothing

Not only is chemical residue from detergents bad for fabrics, but it can also be bad for your health. Additives in clothes can irritate your skin and eyes or potentially cause greater physical harm in time.

When washing your clothes for the first time with Charlie’s Soap, it can take up to three runs to get the old detergent out. With each load, follow the same settings you would normally use for whites and colors.

After three runs are complete, move on to the next round of dirty clothes. In a short time, all of your clothing will be thoroughly cleaned of residue, and you can return to a normal, single-run washing routine.

Try Charlie’s Soap Products

If you are concerned about old chemical buildup in your washing machine, you can also clean it with Charlie’s Soap Kitchen and Bath Household Cleaner. With this option, you use the cleaner in conjunction with water and a sponge to physically scrub residue from the inside of your machine. This also is a great option if you share a washer with a Brand-X user.

Charlie’s Soap wrote a blog just about cleaning washing machines, and you can view it here: How to Clean a Washing Machine
