How to Start Sustainable Habits in 2022

As we make our way into 2022, it’s a great time to “hit the reset button” and start fresh. While many people make New Year’s resolutions about personal health, Charlie’s Soap wanted to shift awareness to protecting the environment.

While most of us know we should live more sustainably, it’s extremely easy to get stuck in complacent habits. For example, you might have stopped putting in the extra effort to recycle or perhaps opt to drive a few short blocks for errands when you could easily walk.

Now that we are entering a new year, it’s a great time to reassess our habits and establish sustainable living. If you are having a hard time choosing changes to make in 2022, Charlie’s Soap put together this brief list of suggestions:

Reusable Containers

A great way to put your best foot forward in the New Year is utilizing more reusable containers. Whether it be carrying a water bottle instead of purchasing disposable ones or buying products in bulk, reusable containers are a great way to kick off sustainable living in 2022. If you are unsure of where to start, try Charlie’s Soap Liquid Laundry Refill and cut down on the amount of packaging used when washing your clothes.

Buy Sustainable Products

There is perhaps a no better way to cause changes in today’s society than with purchasing power. That being said, going the extra mile to research brands with strong environmental ethics can pay significant dividends. For example, if you are shopping for new clothes, buying from a company that uses organic materials. In like fashion, try only to purchase seafood products that are sustainably sourced.

Drive Less

With so much talk about climate change, it’s difficult to ignore the damage we are doing by burning fossil fuels. A great way to make a small dent in this big problem is by driving your car less. For example, if you are going a short distance, try walking or riding a bike. In the end, more exercise is good for you anyway! Another great option is to carpool with friends and neighbors for work and school.

Water Usage

Especially if you live in the western United States, you have likely become all-to-familiar with droughts and water shortages. A great way to ensure future generations have ample freshwater is by curbing your usage now. To illustrate, don’t walk away from doing dishes while the sink is running. Another great tip is to avoid taking unnecessarily long showers.

Reusable Grocery Bags

Reusable grocery bags are a great way to make an immediate positive impact in 2022. By simply bringing your own bags to the grocery store, you will help cut down on the amount of plastic bags that pollute the environment. Similarly, reusable grocery bags lessen the number of trees needed to be cut for making paper bags.

LED Light Bulbs

LED stands for “light-emitting diode.” LED light bulbs run much more efficiently than traditional incandescent bulbs. Replacing the old light bulbs in your home with LEDs will not only slash your power bill but will also help conserve resources for future generations.

Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Using eco-friendly cleaning products like those from Charlie’s Soap is a great way to protect your local ecosystem this year. With our Indoor & Outdoor Surface Cleaner and Kitchen & Bath Household Cleaner, you can keep your home clean and sanitary without having to use harsh chemicals. In turn, the use of biodegradable cleaners will help ensure the health of your local watershed.

Recycle

As always, recycling is a great way to help protect the environment in the new year. To ensure that recycling happens in your household, start separating glass, plastic, aluminum, and paper at the time of usage. That way, when it comes time to take out the trash and recycle, everything is ready to go!
